Senior Fullstack Developer

Praha 9, CZ  Programmer Full time job Education is not essential

Knihobot is a re-commerce platform where over 5 million books have already circulated. Every day, we send around 12,000 books to new homes and gain 10,000 new customers weekly. We aim to double these numbers within a year. We’re among the top 10 fastest-growing tech startups in the CEE region and have won the Heureka ShopRoku award for 2021, 2022, and 2023.

We operate in four European markets (CZ, SK, AT, and DE), and we have ambitious plans, especially for Germany. In the high season, we aim to introduce the idea that a second-hand book makes a great Christmas gift. Together, we’ll create a world where second-hand has become the new European standard. We’ll have the help of a new warehouse in Prague’s Hostivař and the €4 million we recently raised in the latest investment round. Sound good? Check out this position and join us to conquer the European book market!

We’re looking for Backend and Fullstack Developers

Are you an experienced Backend or Fullstack developer who wants to develop new features, improve existing ones, and participate in exciting projects that directly impact an interesting business? Then you’re our person.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Developing new features for our re-commerce platform.
  • Being part of building a completely new Knihobot team focused on Customer Experience.
  • One key project will be overhauling the user profile for our customers. We need to take it to the next level! New feature development isn’t just for the Czech market but also for Slovakia, Germany, and Austria.
  • Our projects are managed by Filip Balada. When it comes to the user profile, some activities may include community features, reviews, book lists, or even gamification. We value proactivity, so feel free to bring your creative ideas!
  • We’re currently working on improving our shopping cart to ensure the best possible shopping experience for our customers—let's focus on Customer Experience (CX)!
  • Our developers are not just code monkeys—discussion is crucial to us, and we’re not afraid to change our approach if necessary. Join us in solution design, setting priorities, and doing code reviews!

Tech Stack:

  • Typescript (Next.js + AdonisJS), MySQL, Redis, Manticore, Kafka.
  • Our infrastructure runs on Kubernetes in AWS.

How we work:

  • We follow Kanban. We review our backlog twice a week.
  • We say things directly as they are, and we often laugh, even at inappropriate jokes.
  • We work in offices near Kolbenova metro station, with the option to work from home sometimes (except on Wednesdays when the whole team is present).
  • We have daily ten-minute stand-ups in the morning.
  • We dedicate time to tackling technical debt and cleaning up the code.
  • We’re a team of 14 (13 developers + CTO).

What we offer:

  • Collaborate with amazing people like Filip (Product Manager), Štěpán (Designer), Simon (internal systems guru), or David (CTO). The team has a great atmosphere—we sometimes grab a beer or go rock climbing. Listen to a podcast with David (CTO) & Simon, where they share insights on how our development works and what’s currently being solved!
  • We build everything in-house: there’s a wide range of problems to solve, so there’s no time to be bored, and always something to work on & improve.
  • See the immediate impact of your work—when we optimize or redesign a process, it typically has positive consequences that are visible not only on the web but also in the warehouse, shipping, customer support, or receiving. If something goes wrong, you'll know pretty quickly!
  • We can design and build everything in-house, tailored to our needs.
  • An incredible opportunity to have a significant influence on the functioning of Knihobot and grow with the company at an incredible pace.
  • One extra week of vacation after one year of cooperation, two extra weeks after two years.
  • Multisport card, employee discounts for buying and selling books, parking near the office, and partner discounts.
  • The chance to get ESOP (employee stock ownership plan) and have a financial stake in the company’s success.
  • A relaxed environment and a pragmatic approach to getting things done.
